How do I transcribe a file?

Step 2: Upload your file.
You can either drag and drop a file or click "Browse Files" to choose a file.

You should set the "Audio Language" to the language spoken in your audio or video file. If it's in English, choose "English". If it's in French, choose "French".
Step 4: Click the blue "Transcribe" button.
Now that your file has finished uploading, click the blue "Transcribe" button at the bottom of the upload dialog. We'll start transcribing your file right away.
Your file will show up on your dashboard and begin transcribing.
When it's complete, click your file to open the transcript. That's it!

I’m having trouble uploading large files.
The maximum file size is 5 GB (five gigabytes). If you upload files larger than 5 GB, you will receive the error message "File size too large".
If you're attemting to upload a large file and receiving an "Upload Error" message, it's likely that your internet connection blocked your file upload. Some internet connections (such as workplaces, public internet, and even some home internet connections) try to stop large file uploads to save bandwidth.
One solution is to convert large video files to an audio-only format (like MP3) on your computer. This also has the advantage of making large uploads much faster on most internet connections.
How do I enable speaker recognition?
If you'd like to automatically differentiate between speakers in the transcript, you can enable Speaker Recognition. This can be found under "Speaker Recognition & More Settings" when uploading a file:
You can either specify the number of speakers up front, or choose “Detect Automatically”. Automatic detection can improve differentiation between speakers (but can sometimes overestimate the number of speakers).
How do I improve the accuracy of my transcription?
While TurboScribe generally performs well across a wide variety of languages and audio quality levels, transcription accuracy can vary by audio quality and language.
If you're having difficulty with a file, there are a couple tools you can always try:
Use the "Restore Audio" tool: This can be found under "More Settings" when uploading a file. This tool uses AI to enhance speech. This can sometimes improve transcription accuracy when you're experiencing issues.
Use other transcription modes: TurboScribe has 3 transcription modes. Most prefer to transcribe on the highest accuracy mode, Whale. You can also try transcribing on the other two modes (Dolphin and Cheetah). Although generally less accurate, these modes can produce different transcriptions.
If you’re using Speaker Recognition and are having difficulty differentiating between speakers, you can switch the number of speakers to "Detect Automatically". This improve differentiation between speakers (but can also overestimate the number of speakers).
What’s the best way to transcribe a lot of files?
Unlimited members can upload up to 50 files at a time and can batch export transcripts in any supported format. We also recommend using folders to organize your files. You can batch export an entire folder (up to 1,000 files) at a time.
If you're transcribing extremely large volumes of audio or video files (more than 24 hours of audio or video per day on average, or top 0.1% of usage), we'll use optimizations like High Volume Mode to help you transcribe as much as possible. You can learn more in our Guide to Transcribing Extremely Large Volumes.
My transcript is in the wrong language.
This is almost always because your "Audio Language" was set to an incorrect language when uploading a file.
For example, if you're transcribing German audio, set the "Audio Language" to German to produce a German transcript.
How do I translate my transcript?
TurboScribe has two ways to translate a transcript.
If you have audio in any language you'd like to translate to any other language: Set the "Audio Language" to the language spoken in the audio when uploading a file (so "French" for French speech) and click "Transcribe".
After your file is finished transcribing, open your transcript and click "Translate" on the right-hand column while viewing your transcript. This will open up the Translation Tool, which you can use to translate your transcript or subtitles into hundreds of languages.
If you have non-English audio you'd like to translate to English: First, set the "Audio Language" to the language spoken in the audio. Then enable "Transcribe to English" under "More Settings" and click "Transcribe". This will produce an English-language transcript, without any intermediate translation step.
You are free to experiment to see what works best for your audio and video content.
